Bayero University, Kano, BUK VC, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas Elected Chairman Committee of Vice Chancellors of Federal Universities.


The Committee of Vice Chancellors of Federal Universities (CVCFU) has, in a unanimous decision, elected the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, as its new Chairman.
Professor Abbas takes over from Professor Lilian Salami, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, who completed her tenure recently.
Until his election, Professor Sagir Abbas served as an alternate chairman since 2022.
This election is in recognition of Professor Abbas’s tireless efforts and commitment to the development of education in Nigeria. Under his leadership, BUK has undergone significant transformations, earning it an enviable status among Nigerian universities.
As the 11th substantive Vice Chancellor of BUK, Professor Abbas has demonstrated exceptional administrative and academic prowess. His vision for a world-class university has driven innovative initiatives, fostering excellence in research, teaching, and community service.
The CVCFU recognizes Professor Abbas’s outstanding contributions to the Nigerian education sector and looks forward to his strategic guidance in advancing the committee’s objectives.
It is expected that Professor Abbas’s leadership will propel the committee to greater heights, promoting collaboration and excellence among Nigerian universities.
The inauguration of BUK VC as Chairman marks a new chapter in the CVC history, and the organization is eager to leverage his expertise to address the challenges and opportunities facing Nigerian higher education.
In his speech shortly after his inauguration, Professor Sagir Abbas promised to work for the progress of the association. He also appealed to members to support him with a view to ensuring progress and development. He expressed delight for the confidence reposed in him and vowed not to disappoint their expectations.
The new CVC chairman, a fellow of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria, was a one-time Special Assistant to the Honorable Minister of Education. He was instrumental to many positive reforms introduced in the education sector and also holds the firm belief that no nation could prosper without giving priority to the education sector.
