It’s important because scoring high in post-utme strengthens your chances of gaining admission to your aspiring school.
Before we show you the tips, let’s explain what POST-UTME means.
To explain it, let’s break down the words one by one.
POST means “After“
UTME is another word for “JAMB Exam“
You guessed it right, POST-UTME simply means an exam conducted AFTER the JAMB EXAM.
Some people call it SCREENING EXAM. Some call it the APTITUDE TEST.
But they all mean the same thing – an exam conducted after the JAMB Exam.
It’s usually conducted by schools that want to make sure that they admit nothing but the best of the best aspirants.

How to Score High in Post UTME
Without much ado, here are the secrets to scoring high;
1. Know It.
Know Your School’s Post-UTME Method!
It’s important to know your school’s method for post-utme exam. Know where their previous questions were gotten from. Know what their past questions look like. These things will help you to know exactly what the real exam will look like.
Most schools will ask you questions based on your UTME subjects. While others like FUNAI might ask you questions based on Maths, English, and current affairs.
Also, make sure you know if your school post-utme is either oral/interview screening, Computer Based Examination (CBE), Paper Based Examination (PPE), or any other method of screening.
2. Revise It.
Revise your School Post UTME Past Questions!
Although it seems like we said this in the previous point, we are making it a topic on its own because of its great importance.
Make sure you practice your aspiring school post-utme past questions. This will really help you reduce tension in the exam hall.
In UNN for example, their aspirants writing literature in English were asked questions from novels of the 1980s. Normally aspirants writing that subject will think their questions will come from recent novels.
If it means buying the past questions, just get it! And make sure you’re not reading fake past questions though. That’s the worst thing you can do to yourself!
3. Read It.
Read your Textbooks, Notebooks, Others.
In those days when I was an aspirant, I was a victim of this particular point. Every time I want to read I will just pick my school post-utme past questions and start answering them. I even went on cramming the questions.
For me then, if I can cram all the post-utme past questions, then, I’m a boss.., they must award me a scholarship because of my high score (lol).
That wasn’t the case 🥲
Though I didn’t literarily fail the exam, my score wasn’t that encouraging. My dear friend, learn from my experience.
Don’t just read your school post-utme past questions, read your textbooks, and notebooks (the ones you got from classes and/or lessons).
Aside from reading the above, listen to the news. Be current on the happenings in Nigeria, Africa, and the world at large.
For example, President Buhari on 6th June 2018, changed the date of democracy day from May 29. Some schools will ask questions like, “What’s the new date for Democracy Day in Nigeria? Ans: June 12th.
Also, read the updated current affairs. Some schools ask questions from this category.
4. Destroy ‘last-minute’ Spirit.
Don’t Procrastinate, Start Reading Now!
Procrastination, according to the Cambridge English Dictionary, is the act of delaying something that must be done, often because it is unpleasant or boring.
Procrastination can be deadly because it makes you think there’s still time…and boom! your exam is next month!
Kill that procrastinating spirit.
Pick your books and start reading now!
5. Don’t forget the 2Ps.
We call the two Ps, Play and Pray.
Anybody that advises you to just read without praying and playing, must be hiding something from you. You shouldn’t just stress yourself with reading alone.
Make sure you play, but don’t overdo it!
Play indoor games like VIDEO GAMES, LUDO, ‘WHOT’, etc.
You can also play outdoor games like Table tennis, football, skipping, running, etc, depending on the one that fits you!
On the prayer factor, we recommend you pray before and after reading, GOD is the finisher of our efforts, he blesses our efforts and makes us excel when we beg him to do so.
6. The “I” Factor.
We call the “I” factor, Information. Always stay Informed!
This point is important, you might be ready to score high in the post utme but when you’re not informed on the latest news in your school, you tend to maybe miss your exam, miss some helpful information, get defrauded, etc.
We, therefore, advise you to get informed, Don’t miss any information from your school.
You can always stay informed with this educational website – ALLSCHOOL.ng – We share the latest news from All Schools in Nigeria. You can also check our POST UTME PAGE for all post-UTME news.
