This remarkable feat established her as the inaugural student at her high school to achieve a joint college and high school graduation within a single year.

Abbie’s ability to achieve this dual graduation was facilitated by the credit plus program at Lakeview Local School, which allows students to transfer associate degree credits towards their high school diploma.

Since her sophomore year of high school, Abbie Campana has been attending classes at Youngstown State University. After successfully completing her first college year, she devised a strategy to secure an associate degree alongside her high school graduation.

Narrating her experience with WKBN, she said:

“So when COVID hit, Lakeview was hybrid schedule. So we were only going to school two days a week and it wasn’t enough for me.

“And then second semester of junior year I went full time at YSU with YSU professors, YSU peers, and then I continued that through my senior year.

“I had about a week of adjustment period and then I was fine. It was no different than the high school classes I was sitting in sophomore year.

“So every class that I took at YSU covered a credit that I would need at Lakeview. So you needed four math classes. I had four but at a college level.

Abbie has dedicated herself to full-time college coursework for the past two years, accumulating 80 credit hours and achieving a perfect 4.00 GPA.

Shortly after receiving her associate degree in business administration from Youngstown State University, Abbie also earned the title of top graduate at Lakeview High School.

Her next step is to attend Bowling Green State University, enrolling as a freshman but starting with junior-level courses to complete a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration within two years.
