From second class to first class: Young Student Graduates With First Class Despite Setbacks

CURSORY: Meet Oluwadamilola Falodun the OAU accounting student who graduated with first class despite all the obstacles he faced.

A first-class Graduate of Accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Oluwadamilola Falodun took to his LinkedIn account to share his academic success, and how he was able to face the challenges that he encountered on his journey to excellence.

In his lengthy post on LinkedIn, Oluwadamilola Falodun reflected on his journey from setbacks to triumph. He had gained admission at age 15 and had hoped to graduate at the age of 19, but little did he know it wouldn’t be possible due to the strike and covid 19.

He said that although he was disappointed due to the strike and covid, he was able to use the free time for self-development and growth.

Falodun said he started having self doubts when he had a CGPA of 4.2 (second class) when he started even though his aim was first class.

The young man said he was able to achieve first class in second semester of his second year, and that was when he regained his confidence in graduating with first class with perseverance and hardwork and letting go of self doubt.

According to him, he received a transformation in the following semesters and surpassed his expectations and maintained a first class throughout his stay in school. He also talked about Having a score of 96/100 in a course ACC 301.

Finally he thanked God, his family friends and lecturers who supported and believed on him. He was overjoyed and proud for graduating with a CGPA of 4.52 (first class) at 21 years and said it was as a result of resilience determination and self belief.

In his words; ”As this chapter concludes I carry forward the lessons learned – that setbacks can be stepping stones, doubts can be conquered and every challenge is an opportunity for growth.

”Here’s to the journey the triumph and the unwavering beliefs oneself.”
