Registration Portal Opens for InterswitchSPAK 8.0 National Science Contest

Interswitch has announced the commencement of this year’s edition of its national science competition, InterswitchSPAK 8.0 in Nigeria. Students from senior secondary schools are now free to register for the competition on the InterswitchSPAK portal. The closing date is Friday, 22nd May 2026.

InterswitchSPAK is an annual Pan-African competition, aimed at re-igniting interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects among secondary school students.

InterswitchSPAK National Science Competition 8.0 for secondary school students in Nigeria is now on.

  • Registration of your students is open till 11:59pm, Friday, 22nd May 2026 and it is FREE.
  • Schools are now allowed to register up to Twenty (20) SS2 Science Students each.
  • You don’t need to travel to write the qualifying examination. The Examination is fully online and can be written in your school, home or any convenient space.
  • Online CBT exams will be held from Tuesday, 9th to 16th June 2026, from 8am to 5pm daily.
  • You have the chance to choose the day and time that best suits you to write the examination, and you have two (2) trials.
  • Mixed schools are required to register at least two (2) female students among the twenty (20) students registered.

Reward

First Prize

The first prize winner will get a five (5) year University Scholarship and Annual stipend worth ₦15,000,000 (Fifteen million Naira). Brand New Laptop. Bragging right of being the best Science student in Nigeria

Second Prize

The second prize winner will get a five (5) year University Scholarship and Annual stipend worth ₦10,000,000 (Ten million Naira). Brand New Laptop.

Third Prize

The third prize will get a five (5) year University Scholarship worth ₦5,000,000 (Five million Naira) + Brand New Laptop.

How to Apply for InterswitchSPAK 8.0 National Science Contest

The competition uses a two-way registration system:

  • Individual Registration
    Parents/Guardians may register their children/students directly on the platform.
    This option is designed for home-schooled students or those whose schools may not be participating in the competition.
  • School Registration
    Each school is required to register a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 20 SS2 science students.
    To enhance your chances of qualifying for the second round, each school is required to present their BEST 20 science students in SS2, irrespective of religion, tribe, or state of origin.

Mixed schools are required to include at least two female students among the 20 that would represent them.

Competition Structure

First Part (Round 1 – Online CBT)
All registered candidates on the platform are expected to participate in this round based on the time and date specified by the organizer.

Second Part (Qualifying Examination)
After the first round, all students who score 75% and above will proceed to the second stage of the online qualifying examination.
The best 81 students from this stage will then proceed to Stage Two (TV Quiz Show).

Key details about the examination:

  • The examination will run for 5 days (8 hours per day).
    Students can choose any day and time within the five days allocated.
  • Each student gets a 5-minute demo session on the platform to get acquainted before taking the test.
  • All registered students will have 2 chances to write the CBT.
    The system will automatically select the better of the two scores.

Competition Guidelines

INTERSWITCHSPAK OBJECTIVES

  • To arouse and sustain keen interest in the study of STEM in high schools across Africa.
  • To raise the standard of STEM education and reward excellence with educational grants through an unbiased competition that would promote sound education in Africa.
  • To create a vehicle that is genuinely interested in the growth, development and well-being of Africa students and teachers through various interventions including scholarship schemes for outstanding STEM students.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

This competition is open to students in SS2 (Year 11) between the ages of 14 and 17 who are enrolled in full-time secondary education in both public and private schools across Nigeria. Participation is completely FREE.

To improve chances of advancing to the second round, each school is encouraged to present up to twenty (20) science students in SS2, regardless of religion, tribe, or state of origin.

The examination will be conducted online.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Exam Format & Conduct

  • Only students registered online via www.interswitchspak.com can participate.
  • Candidates may use a computer or smartphone with a stable internet connection, a camera, and audio peripherals enabled as prompted.
  • Calculators are allowed, and students may use statistical tables.
  • Candidates must take the test individually without assistance.

Technical Rules

  • A stable internet connection is required.
  • If there is a delay in page loading, avoid refreshing to prevent system logout.
  • The exam is monitored remotely, and any flagged irregularities may result in disqualification.
  • Candidates must not switch tabs, minimize the exam window, or open other applications. Doing so three times will result in automatic log-out.
  • Notifications and pop-ups must be disabled to prevent disruptions.
  • Candidates must not use browser navigation buttons (Back, Refresh, or Forward). Using them repeatedly may result in log-out.

Exam Attempts & Submission

  • Each candidate has two attempts, and the higher score will be recorded.
  • If a candidate accepts their first attempt’s score, they forfeit the second attempt.
  • If time runs out before submission, the system will automatically submit the highest recorded score.

Misconduct & Disqualification

  • Cheating, impersonation, or external assistance will lead to disqualification.
  • Candidates should not attempt to manipulate the system by tampering with settings.
  • The organizers’ decisions are final and will not be subject to further review.

ABOUT INTERSWITCHSPAK

INTRODUCTION:
InterswitchSPAK is an annual search across high schools (public and private) in Nigeria for only SS 2 (year 11) students between the ages of 14-17 years. It is introduced to chart the ideal career path and drive the student towards full optimization of their potentials and fulfilment of their dreams (either as an inventor or entrepreneur) with a key message of revving up the interest of students; parents, teachers and other key stakeholders towards STEM education and its application in Africa.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE?

  • You must be a student in Year 11, attending a full time Secondary education in any High school (Public and Private) in Nigeria
  • You must be between the age of 15 to 18 residing in Nigeria
  • You must be willing to travel out of your State
  • Sound knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, Biology & Mathematics based on the current Year 11 NECO syllabus is important
  • You must be willing to comply with the rules laid down by the Producers.
