5 Reasons Most Students Are Not Offered Admission Despite High Post-utme Score

This page will show you the top Five Reasons Most Students Are Denied Admission Despite Scoring High in Post-utme

Most admission seekers are oftentimes left confused trying to know the reason why they were not offered admission to the institution of their choice despite having a very high UTME score. At times, having a high Post-UTME is not a guarantee for admission.

This page will show you the 5 reasons why some students are denied admission despite having a high post utme score.

Top 5 Reasons Candidates Are Denied Admission

  1. Wrong UTME combination
  2. University’s catchment area
  3. Low UTME Score
  4. Wrong O’level result
  5. Lack of Information

Explanation:

  1. Wrong UTME combination

This is one of the reasons a number of students lose admission despite beating the post-UTME cut-off point. At times though, some students are being stripped of their admission or moved to another department during the process of first-year registration simply because of wrong JAMB subject combination.

For instance, depending on the school, a student seeking admission to study mass communication would definitely lose the admission if he or she did not take Literature-in-English as part of the four subjects for the UTME exam. Similarly, a student seeking admission to study Physics and Electronics should definitely select Physics as part of his UTME subject combination.

Before any student fills his or her JAMB form, he or she should painstakingly go through the JAMB Brochure to know the right subject combination for his or her course of study.

If you have already chosen a course with the wrong utme subject combination, then we recommend you change the course to a course that fits that your subject combination.

  1. University’s catchment area

Most federal universities, including some state universities, still retain the policy of catchment area in selecting students for admission.

For instance, the UNILAG catchment area constitutes majorly South Western states. This implies prospective students from the South West have higher chances of gaining admission. For example, a prospective student from Osun state who scored 56, applying to study sociology may be offered admission while another student from Imo state who scored 60 may not be offered admission.

In view of the above, admission seekers should always be aware of a university’s catchment area and requirements before selecting any university.

  1. Low UTME Score

Oftentimes, I pity most Jambites who score within the range of 180 and 210 because such scores limit their chances of gaining admission in a situation where they have to compete for the same admission slot with students who score as high as 250 and above.

And most universities still compute both UTME and post-UTME scores in calculating the student’s average score.

Hence, having a low UTME score can also hinder one’s opportunity of gaining admission. It is always advisable for students to try to score 250 and above in order to be on the safer side.

However, if your utme score is very low and your school conducts post utme (exam), then you should strive to score extremely high in the post utme. This is to guarantee your spot on the merit admission list.

RECOMMENDED: How to Score Extremely High in Post UTME

  1. Wrong O’level result

Not having the right O’level subjects for the course you’re going for could deny you the chance of gaining admission even if you score high in the post utme.

Last year, a friend of mine was given admission into the University of Nigeria (UNN), but her admission was withdrawn because she didn’t have at least a credit pass in a science subject.

So you see, it’s essential you ensure that you possess the right O’level subject combination for the course you’re going for.

  1. Lack of Information

Last but not the least, not having the right information might deny you the chance of gaining admission even if you score extremely high in the post utme.

Some schools, usually ask candidates to submit some information within a specified deadline. Candidates who don’t follow the instruction might be denied admission.

Hence we advise you always stay abreast with the right information from your school. This is why ALLSCHOOL was created, to always feed aspirants with timely educational information.
