LASU Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has interdicted Prof. Biodun Adewuya, the Provost of LASUCOM, for insubordination and other serious misconduct, appointing Prof. Olufemi Idowu as Acting Provost while the case undergoes further investigation by the Joint Council-Senate Disciplinary Committee, with the interdiction effective from 3rd September 2024 for an initial period of three months.

The Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has approved the interdiction of the Provost of Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Prof. Biodun Adewuya, citing insubordination, unauthorized disclosure of official information, actions that threaten the security of the university and state, divided loyalty, and conduct unbecoming of a public officer.
According to a memo dated 30th August 2024, with reference number LASU/ASE/PF/3394, these actions are considered serious misconduct and violate Chapter 3, Sections 3.6 and 3.8 (3.8.1) of the university’s Conditions of Service for Senior Staff (September 2017).
In a statement on Sunday, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, the Head of Information and Public Relations, announced that Prof. Olufemi Idowu has been appointed as the acting provost.
Before the interdiction, Prof. Adewuya was issued two separate queries regarding the allegations, but his responses were deemed unsatisfactory by the Vice Chancellor, who has now referred the case to the Joint Council-Senate Disciplinary Committee for further investigation.
Prof. Adewuya’s interdiction, effective from 3rd September 2024, will last for an initial period of three months, during which he is relieved of all duties as a member of staff of Lagos State University and as Provost of LASUCOM, in line with Chapter 3, Section 3.9.7 (e) of the university’s Conditions of Service for Senior Staff.
Meanwhile, Prof. Olufemi Emmanuel Idowu, the Deputy Provost of LASUCOM from the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, has been appointed as Acting Provost starting 3rd September 2024, pending the outcome of the investigation by the Joint Council-Senate Disciplinary (Academic) Committee regarding Prof. Adewuya.
