Nigerian lawyer Emmanuel Oyesomi achieved a historic milestone by earning dual bar admissions in Newfoundland and Alberta, Canada, within one year, highlighting his dedication to legal excellence and client advocacy.


A brilliant Nigerian lawyer, Emmanuel Oyesomi, has made history in Canada by earning two bar admissions within a single year, showcasing remarkable determination and legal expertise.
On June 21, 2024, Emmanuel was called to the bar of Newfoundland, just weeks after completing his Master of Laws (LLM) degree at York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School. Six months later, on December 11, 2024, he was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta and officially added to the Society’s roll as a member.
Reflecting on his journey, Emmanuel shared his gratitude and experiences on LinkedIn, noting the meaningful connections he has formed and the profound impact of his legal work. “The testimonials and reviews from clients I’ve represented over the past months give me immense joy and satisfaction,” he wrote. He highlighted his contributions in areas such as civil law, bankruptcy, insolvency, and complex immigration cases, describing the opportunity to help clients during challenging times as deeply fulfilling.
Emmanuel also acknowledged the support and collaboration of exceptional colleagues during his tenure at Deloitte and the law firms where he articled and practiced. Now licensed to practice as a barrister and solicitor in Alberta, Newfoundland, and Nigeria—Africa’s largest bar—he plans to focus primarily on his legal career in Alberta while continuing to strengthen his professional network.
