Office workers reject high-performing NYSC corps member over attitude

Despite her excellent work performance, an outstanding NYSC corps member was reportedly rejected for permanent employment because colleagues preferred a more respectful and easy-to-work-with colleague.

A workplace discussion has gone viral after an employee revealed why colleagues chose not to recommend a brilliant NYSC corps member for permanent employment despite her impressive performance.

According to the employee, two female corps members are currently serving in the same office, but management intends to retain only one after the completion of their service year. To help make the decision, the company’s HR department requested feedback from staff.

Although one of the corps members has excelled in her role, especially in marketing where she successfully secured a business deal, many staff members reportedly described her as rude and difficult to work with. The second corps member, while still learning the job, is said to be polite, respectful, and well-liked by everyone in the office.

The employee explained that most workers preferred the friendly corps member, believing she could improve her skills with training, while the other’s attitude might continue to create problems in the workplace.

The story has sparked debate online, with many people arguing that good character, teamwork, and professionalism are just as important as competence and outstanding performance when employers are making retention decisions.
