Admission Quota and Applicants Versus Capacity
Gombe State University has a carrying capacity of approximately 7,525 candidates across its academic programmes. However, admission remains highly competitive, particularly in professional courses where applications significantly exceed the available spaces. For instance: Medicine and Surgery received 2,231 applicants competing for 100 available spaces. Law recorded 1,187 applicants competing for 50 available spaces. Nursing Science attracted 2,363 applicants competing for 75 available spaces. Computer Science received 1,241 applicants competing for 200 available spaces. Pharmacy recorded 967 applicants competing for 100 available spaces. These figures clearly demonstrate the intense competition for admission, especially into professional and highly sought-after programmes. The University therefore advises candidates, particularly those with average or lower UTME scores, to consider alternative programmes where admission opportunities may be more favourable.
Admission Guidelines
To ensure fairness, inclusivity, transparency, and compliance with national policy, admissions for the 2026/2027 academic session shall be distributed as follows:
- National Merit (10%): Reserved strictly for candidates with the highest UTME scores, irrespective of state of origin, in order to reward academic excellence.
- Non-Indigenes (10%): Allocated to candidates from outside Gombe State to promote national integration and diversity within the University community.
- Discretionary (10%): Reserved for special considerations, including candidates with exceptional talents, unique circumstances, or strategic academic needs.
- Local Government Areas (70%): Distributed equally among the eleven (11) Local Government Areas of Gombe State, ensuring equitable access and balanced representation across all communities. This structure reflects the University’s firm commitment to equity, fairness, transparency, and educational inclusiveness, ensuring that no community is left behind in accessing higher education opportunities.
