Joshua Okoduwa, a determined and brilliant Nigerian man, has risen above the challenges of poverty to earn a Master’s degree in Poverty and Development from the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom. His remarkable journey from humble beginnings to academic success is inspiring many across Nigeria and beyond.
Joshua began his academic career at the University of Lagos, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Planning. Motivated to further his studies and make a meaningful impact in society, he applied to universities abroad, determined not to let financial struggles hold him back.
Through hard work and persistence, Joshua was awarded the highly competitive Chevening Scholarship, which provided him with full funding to pursue his Master’s degree in the UK. This opportunity allowed him to focus on his studies and his passion for creating solutions to help people living in poverty.
Reflecting on his background, Joshua shared emotional memories of growing up in Agege, Lagos, where his family faced daily financial hardship. His experiences fueled his desire to understand the root causes of poverty and to seek ways to uplift others who face similar struggles.
Now a proud graduate, Joshua is committed to using his knowledge and skills to support disadvantaged communities and help improve the lives of the less privileged, proving that no dream is too big, no matter the circumstances.
