A 300-level FUBK student, Zaharadeen Nuhu, died after being attacked with machetes by suspected robbers at his off-campus hostel in Kebbi State, sparking concerns over student safety and increased security measures.


A student of Federal University Birnin Kebbi, Zaharadeen Nuhu, has died after suffering severe machete injuries during an attack by suspected robbers at a private hostel in Kalgo, Kebbi State.
The 300-level Biochemistry student was reportedly attacked by a group of thieves at his off-campus residence and was rushed to a hospital for treatment. However, he later died from his injuries.
University authorities confirmed the incident and said the Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation. Security patrols have also been strengthened in Kalgo and surrounding student communities.
The institution announced plans to work with hostel owners to improve safety by increasing lighting and employing night guards. Students have been advised to remain vigilant, avoid moving around late at night, travel in groups when possible, and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The deceased was buried on Thursday following Janazah prayers in Birnin Kebbi. Meanwhile, students have raised concerns over insecurity around off-campus hostels, calling for stronger measures to protect residents from attacks and other criminal activities.
