Woman Raises Alarm After Brother Is Hit by Tricycle on Way to Early Morning Exam, Risks Losing Leg

A woman has appealed for urgent help after her brother was critically injured and left unconscious when a tricycle driving against traffic hit him outside the University of Abuja while he was heading to a 5 a.m. exam, leaving him at risk of leg amputation amid rising medical bills and alleged lack of institutional support.

A young woman has taken to social media to seek urgent help after her brother was involved in a serious road accident while heading to an early morning examination at the University of Abuja.

According to her account, the incident occurred in the early hours of the day as students were rushing to campus for a test scheduled for around 5:00 a.m. Her brother, alongside a coursemate, was attempting to cross the road directly in front of the university when a commercial tricycle reportedly moving against traffic struck them.

The woman revealed that her brother sustained severe injuries and was unconscious at the time she shared the update. Medical professionals have described his condition as critical and began preparations for emergency surgery. She added that doctors warned the family that amputation of his leg might become necessary if his condition worsens.

She further alleged that although the tricycle rider was initially arrested after the accident, there were signs that he might be released. She also expressed disappointment that the university authorities had not reached out to the family or offered any form of support since the incident occurred.

In addition, she disclosed that the hospital initially refused to admit her brother due to the severity of his injuries, forcing him to be taken to multiple facilities before he was eventually accepted. The mounting medical bills, she said, have gone far beyond what she can afford.

In an emotional plea, the woman called on the University of Abuja for assistance, questioning why an examination was scheduled so early in the morning. She explained that her brother had struggled to get to school that day and was struck right in front of the school gate by a tricycle driving the wrong way.

She stated that her brother’s survival is uncertain, describing the situation as “50/50,” with doctors weighing the possibility of surgery against the need to amputate his leg. She added that it was the Students’ Union Government that contacted her to come for her brother after the accident, and that despite the rider’s arrest, efforts were already underway to set him free.

The distressed sister ended her appeal by asking for urgent help, saying she is traumatized, overwhelmed, and unable to shoulder the growing medical expenses alone.
