He earned master’s degrees in Special Education and Elementary Education, and is currently pursuing a doctorate at Vanderbilt University.

As a fourth-grade teacher, Washington is committed to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment. He believes representation matters, saying, “It starts with Black students seeing their future selves.” His achievement is a testament to the power of passion and dedication in education.

Washington’s award recognizes his innovative approach and impact on students. He emphasizes the importance of community and relationships in the classroom, stating, “Teaching is a calling.” His success is a result of hard work and the support of his colleagues.
