FUOYE Suspends Staff Members, SUG President Over Alleged Illegal Student Levy

FUOYE has suspended two senior officials and its SUG president over allegations that they collected an unauthorized ₦1,000 levy from students and were involved in the improper handling of the funds.

The managempent of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended two senior officials and the Students’ Union Government (SUG) president over allegations of collecting unauthorized fees from students.

The university announced that the affected individuals are Olanrewaju Ogunjobi, Director of the Directorate of Educational Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship; Banji Rildwan Olaleye, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs and Support Services; and SUG President James Iyanuoluwa Adio.

According to the university registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim, the action followed a petition alleging that 100-level students were made to pay ₦1,000 each for practical sessions organized by the directorate. In response, management established a fact-finding committee to investigate the claims.

The committee reportedly questioned all individuals named in the petition and reviewed the circumstances surrounding the collection of the funds. Preliminary findings allegedly showed that the money was collected without obtaining the required approvals from the university’s management or Senate, contrary to established procedures.

The investigation also suggested that the Deputy Dean was involved in the collection process, while the SUG president was accused of participating in the handling of part of the funds. The registrar further alleged that a sum of ₦700,000 was later transferred into the student leader’s personal bank account after he requested a refund.

FUOYE management stated that it remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the protection of students from exploitation. The university emphasized that acts of extortion, financial misconduct, and abuse of office will not be tolerated as investigations into the matter continue.
