The University of Calabar has suspended SUG Vice President Agnes Chaidi for misconduct related to post-exam celebrations, as part of a broader disciplinary crackdown that also affected final-year students.

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended Agnes Chaidi, the Vice President of the Student Union Government (SUG) from the Faculty of Management Sciences, due to misconduct.
The suspension, announced in a letter signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Gabriel O. Egbe, follows a series of disciplinary actions taken by the school. This comes shortly after the suspension of all final-year students from the Departments of Environmental Protection and Management, Microbiology, and Mass Communication for engaging in reckless driving, displaying colors, and wild celebrations after their exams.
Additionally, on the same day, another student, Anazodo Mary Chinasa from the Department of Public Health, was suspended for threatening an examination invigilator.
Chaidi’s suspension stems from allowing her official vehicle to be used in the post-exam celebrations, violating a ban on such activities. The university cited her actions as an abuse of office and a disregard for university policies she was expected to uphold as an SUG executive.
The university has deemed her conduct unacceptable and in violation of the student code of conduct, directing her to stay off-campus unless summoned by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee to justify her continuation in office.
The Deans of the Faculty of Management Sciences and Student Affairs have been informed of the decision, and the Acting Chief Security Officer has been instructed to withdraw the vehicle assigned to Chaidi.
