UNICAL has suspended final-year students from three departments for violating a directive against reckless celebrations and halted their result processing pending investigation.

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended final-year students from the Environmental Protection and Management, Microbiology, and Mass Communication departments for disregarding the institution’s ban on reckless driving, flying of colors, and unruly celebrations following their exams.
In a memo signed by the Registrar, Mr. Gabriel O. Egbe, it was stated that the students violated a directive issued on August 7, 2024, which prohibited such behavior.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, expressed her disappointment and instructed the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, to halt the processing of the students’ results until an investigation is completed.
A Special Management Committee has been established to investigate the incident and provide recommendations, while the Deans of the affected faculties have been tasked with ensuring full compliance with the suspension.
This measure is intended to uphold discipline and order within the university.
