A 200-level sociology student at the University of Lagos, Favour Okwor, has been recognised for her exceptional academic performance after earning a perfect 5.00 GPA during the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic session. Her remarkable achievement earned her a congratulatory letter and a cash reward of $60 from her course adviser, Dr. Tunde A. Alabi.
Favour shared the exciting news on LinkedIn, revealing that beyond attaining a flawless semester GPA, her cumulative grade point average also improved significantly from 4.15 to 4.46. She described the progress as proof that consistent effort, discipline and determination can gradually produce outstanding results, encouraging other students not to give up on their academic goals.
According to the student, the recognition meant more than the financial reward because it reflected the progress she had made since entering the university. She explained that many students rarely discuss their academic journey while still in school, but she decided to share hers to inspire others who may feel discouraged by their current grades.
She also praised her course adviser, Dr. Tunde A. Alabi, for continually motivating students to strive for excellence. Favour noted that he regularly celebrates students’ achievements, encourages them to aim higher and reminds them that their present academic standing does not determine their future success. She added that his confidence in their abilities has inspired many students to believe in themselves.
The congratulatory letter stated that Favour achieved a 5.00/5.00 GPA with a mean score of 78.7%, placing her second among more than 140 200-level sociology students across both the Regular and ICE programmes. In recognition of the feat, she was awarded $60. The letter further noted that her overall CGPA now stands at 4.46, just 0.04 points below the first-class benchmark, expressing confidence that she has the potential to graduate with first-class honours.
