Despite scoring low grades in BECE (45) and WASSCE (35), Sophia Manu persevered through academic challenges to earn First-Class degrees in both her undergraduate and master’s studies, inspiring many with her resilience and determination.

A Ghanaian woman has defied the odds, transforming early academic struggles into an inspiring success story. Sophia Manu, who initially performed poorly in both the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), has now earned First-Class degrees at both undergraduate and master’s levels.
Sophia Manu took to TikTok to share her incredible journey, revealing that she scored an aggregate of 45 in BECE and 35 in WASSCE. Despite these setbacks, she refused to give up. Through sheer determination and relentless hard work, she gained admission to the university, where she thrived academically.
After four years of undergraduate studies, Sophia graduated with a First-Class degree, achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.8. Her success didn’t stop there—she went on to pursue a master’s degree, graduating with a perfect GPA of 4.0.
Her story has since gone viral, serving as a source of motivation for students who may be struggling academically. In the caption accompanying her TikTok video, she summarized her transformation:
