Professor Joshua Ogunwole, Vice Chancellor of Bowen University, thanked Governor Gboyega Oyetola for the essay competition held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the state’s founding.
When Ogunwole paid tribute to the winner, Victor Ayodeji Adeyemo, a 400-level medicine and surgical student at the institution, he described the achievement as refreshing and said it was a welcome development for the institution.
Adeyemo became the winner of the contest, which was titled: “Uncovering the Security Architecture and Leading Challenges of All Geopolitical Zones in Nigeria”.
The vice chancellor said it was a joy to celebrate one of their students, who stood out from the fierce competition held in Oyetola.
He said: “We want to celebrate our son who made us proud.
“This is the realization of our vision.
“We thank God for giving us this opportunity because it will make our students self-motivated and think outside the box.
“It is in our character to recognize and celebrate any of our students who have performed well in such occasions.
“Let me take this opportunity to thank the Governor for proposing such a plan to inspire students and improve their abilities. I take off my hat for him,” the venture capitalist said.
He said that the university would give Adeyemo a check for N150,000 to buy the book, and Oyetola gave a brand new car and a cash gift of N500,000.
Professor Oduola Abiola, Academic Director, advised the student not to relax, because he knows that all eyes are on him.
In his speech, the cheerful Adejemo expressed his gratitude to the school and the Governor of Oyetola for the opportunity.
He said: “This is the second year. The first event was held last year, but I was unable to participate.
“This time I decided to participate and I became the winner.
“According to him, a total of 702 applicants from 34 universities signed up for the competition, of which 25 were shortlisted for defense and oral presentations.
