The tragedy occurred on Monday, December 8, 2025, near Ujoelen Junction along the Ekpoma–Auchi Expressway. According to information gathered by DAILY POST, the deceased joined a convoy of fellow graduating students who took to the major road as part of their sign-out festivities.
Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, confirmed the incident. He stated that one person died and five others sustained varying injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Mathew explained that after writing their last paper, the students moved onto the highway in a motorcade. During the celebration, one of the students attempted to overtake another vehicle but collided with a stationary truck.
He urged students to keep their celebrations within campus areas and to prioritize safety, reminding them that “there is life after graduation.”
