A brilliant Nigerian woman, Betsy Otoyo, has made headlines by graduating from Afe Babalola University, Nigeria, with an exceptional 4.91 CGPA. Her outstanding achievement comes after making a bold decision to switch from Medicine to Computer Science during her second year—a move she described as one of the most challenging choices of her life.
In a heartfelt LinkedIn post, Betsy reflected on her journey, detailing how she overcame initial hesitation and rediscovered her passion for technology. “I finally saw where I wanted to be in the next few years, and I haven’t looked back since,” she wrote.
The switch to Computer Science wasn’t easy. Betsy had to work tirelessly to catch up on missed courses, acquire new skills, and adapt to an entirely different academic discipline. Despite these obstacles, she found immense joy in learning and took pride in proving her capabilities.
“The thrill of proving to myself that I could do what I once thought impossible made it all worth it,” she said, adding that her degree is a testament to her perseverance and determination.
Beyond academics, Betsy shone in extracurricular activities. She served as the Secretary of the CodeBlooded Society, where she managed administrative duties for the university’s tech club. She also participated in a research team that led her university to victory at the Babcock Techxplore Event. Additionally, Betsy was an active member of the COSSA Volleyball Team throughout her university years.
Betsy attributed her success to her robust support system, expressing deep appreciation for her family and friends. “I couldn’t have asked for a better support system,” she noted, thanking her parents for trusting her decisions and her younger brother for his constant encouragement.
Sharing her experience, Betsy offered an inspiring message: “Grass will always be green where you water it.” She also expressed gratitude to God for His guidance and looks forward to a lifelong journey of learning and growth.
