Babcock University has disowned Carter Efe’s alleged degree certificate, describing it as forged and announcing plans to take legal action.
Babcock University has rejected a certificate shared online by comedian and content creator Carter Efe, describing it as fake and stating that it was not issued by the institution. The university’s response followed the comedian’s claim during an interview that he graduated with a First Class degree in Biochemistry.
After making the claim, Carter Efe, whose real name is Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, posted what he described as his university certificate on social media, saying it proved he graduated from Babcock University in 2023 with outstanding academic honours.
In an official statement, the university said the document contained several inconsistencies and did not match its academic records or certificate format. It stressed that the institution has never used the term “First Class Upper” as an academic classification.
According to the university, the only recognised classification for top-performing graduates is “First Class Honours.” It added that students’ academic achievements are confirmed only through official degree certificates and transcripts issued by the Office of the Registrar, and that it does not issue honorary certificates to celebrate undergraduate performance.
Babcock University also advised employers, professional bodies, government agencies and members of the public to verify academic credentials carefully and avoid relying on unauthorised documents bearing the institution’s name. It warned that anyone involved in producing, distributing or using forged certificates for employment, admission or professional recognition could face legal consequences.
The institution further disclosed that it is taking legal steps over the alleged forgery, maintaining that the certificate circulated by Carter Efe is not genuine and reaffirming its commitment to protecting the integrity of its academic records.
