Kaduna shuts down school whose proprietor allegedly rapes 9-year-old pupil

Kaduna State Government has withdrawn the licence of and shut down Liberation College, Trikania, whose proprietor, simply identified as Mr. Samuel Ejikeme, reportedly confessed to raping a 9-year-old pupil on tape.

The incident, which was confirmed by the Kaduna State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, made the state’s Ministry of Education to withdraw the school’s licence.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Education, Shehu Usman Muhammad, explained that the withdrawal of the licence is based on the power vested on the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority, in Part IV, section 17(1)h of the law establishing the Authority.

He said the licence of Liberation College Trikania, Kaduna is hereby revoked and school closed.

“The Kaduna state government is therefore calling on all parents and guardians to withdraw their children or wards from the school while government will continue to look into the case with a view to deepening further investigation on the matter,” he said.

Meanwhile, the state government has also directed KASUPDA to look into the school’s development permit and take further action within two weeks while the suspect, Mr. Ejikeme is being detained for prosecution.
