Your claim of releasing N52.12bn to us deceptive, ASUU hits FG

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has debunked the claims made by the Nigerian minister for Labour and Employment, Sen Chris Ngige that N52.12bn has been released to the association.

ASUU stated that the claim is “deceptive, misleading and aimed at smearing the image of our union and it’s members in the public eye”.

ASUU made this known while addressing members of the press on Wednesday; the Kano zonal coordinator of the union, Comrade Abdulkadri Muhammad, said only N22.17billion was released Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) out of which only 75% (N16.6 billion) was released to the union while the remaining 25% was for sister unions.

He stated that the union was saddened by the federal government’s continued effort to make mockery of it’s campaign and tag the union as a money-seeking union before the public eye.
He also said that signing the agreement which was reached is the most important help to salvage the crumbling university system in Nigeria.

He said, ” For the record, the N30 billion out of which N20 billion was released for revitalization, was given to university managements to address the infrastructural decay on our campuses; no single Kobo was given to any member of ASUU.

“It is also pertinent for the public to note that even the N22.17 billion EAA that was paid, only 75% was due to our members while the remaining 25% was given to other sister unions.

“We therefore call on the minister to always put issues in the proper perspective and desist from playing dicey politics with serious national matter like university education of the future leaders of our beloved country.”

The Union also called on governments at all levels to do the needful in order to address the scourge of insecurity, banditary, kidnappings and wanton killing of innocent Nigerians.

It also frowns at the government’s unjustifiable attempt to increase tax and remove fuel subsidy which will make life more unbearable for Nigerians.
