A Nigerian student in UK shares how he got friends to wear traditional outfits

A Nigerian student at the University of Nottingham in the UK, Gift Odoh, has revealed how he got his friends, who are not Nigerians to wear traditional outfits.

Odoh, who shared photos of his White friends in Idoma attire and Babariga, graduated with a First Class in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Modibbo Adama University of Technology in Yola.

On his LinkedIn page, Odoh lamented that he sometimes found it difficult to explain some of the news that comes out of Nigeria, however, his friends have discovered that not all Nigerians are in reality what they are painted to be.

On getting his friends to wear Nigerian traditional outfits, Odoh said he had suggested it and almost forgot about it but his friends didn’t.

He said, “Very often, my friends ask about Nigeria and our rich culture. So one evening, I casually said to my friends, I have some cultural attires from Nigeria, and they immediately wanted to try them. Funny story, I almost forgot, and they reminded me about the dresses as they were looking forward to it. I think they rocked it pretty well! 😂”

Odoh added, “Don’t worry! They also have tasted Ogbono, Egusi and Groundnut soups with Semo and Eba, Beans and Garri and our world best Jollof Rice. They want to see the beautiful country and people that is #Nigeria someday, and I hope it becomes a reality. 💪🏾🇳🇬”

The Master’s student, who is focusing on artificial intelligence, robotics and control added that he also enjoys British meals.

On how he had three traditional outfits at hand, Odoh said, “I am Idoma, born and raised in the North, and my best friend is Yoruba, who is like family. I identify with all.
