A first-year ABSU student, Michael Wonderful Nikeur, was found dead in her off-campus lodge after being unseen for hours, prompting shock, grief, and concerns she may have suffered an asthma attack while alone.

The Abia State University (ABSU) community has been plunged into grief following the unexpected death of Michael Wonderful Nikeur, a first-year student of Food Science and Technology.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, November 26, at Las Vegas Lodge, a popular off-campus hostel where many students reside.
According to students living in the lodge, concern began to rise when Wonderful—known for being quiet and reserved—had not been seen or heard from for an unusually long time. Neighbours said they knocked repeatedly on her door, but there was no response.
“As the day went on and she still didn’t come out or answer her phone, we knew something was wrong,” one resident, who requested anonymity, said. “We kept knocking, calling, but nothing.”
When attempts to reach her failed, some of the occupants forced the door open and found her lying unresponsive on the floor. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel confirmed she had passed away.
Friends revealed that Wonderful had a history of asthma, leading many to believe she may have suffered an attack while alone. However, authorities have not yet released an official cause of death.
Her death has left many students, especially fellow freshmen, in shock. Those who knew her described her as gentle, focused, and someone who mostly kept to herself.
“We’re devastated. She had just begun her journey here,” another student said.
As the school community mourns, students are urging one another to monitor their health more closely and to regularly check up on friends, particularly those who live alone.
The tragic loss has become a painful reminder of how fragile life can be, leaving ABSU deeply shaken as they mourn a promising young scholar.
