Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria has granted scholarships to 107 students, including foreign students, indigent students, and those with special needs, according to a statement by the university’s Public Affairs Director, Auwalu Umar.
The scholarship beneficiaries include 49 postgraduate and 42 undergraduate foreign students, along with 10 Nigerian and 6 indigent undergraduate students.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raymond Bako, emphasized that the scholarships align with the university’s founding mission to support vulnerable students, and while not provided in cash, they aim to help students succeed.
Foreign students were also encouraged to be good ambassadors of the university upon returning to their home countries, while the Director of Counseling and Human Development, Dr. Sa’adatu Muhammad-Makarfi, noted that foreign students are now charged the same fees as indigenous students to ease financial burdens.
The President of Students with Special Needs, Mustapha Yahaya, thanked the university for covering tuition and accommodation costs for some students and urged the management to extend the scholarships to more students with special needs.
