Students of Adamawa State Polytechnic Yola protested peacefully over a week-long lack of electricity and water, blocking streets and voicing their frustrations about management’s inaccessibility, with the rector indicating plans to address the situation as electricity was restored during the protest.

Students of Adamawa State Polytechnic Yola (SPY) protested early Monday, September 2, over the absence of electricity and water supply.
The protest included both male and female students from the main campus hostels in Yola, who blocked the streets near the main gate, disrupting traffic on the busy Jimeta-Yola road.
Carrying sticks and green leaves, the students expressed frustration over a week-long lack of electricity and water, and their inability to communicate their grievances to the management, citing restrictions on forming a student union and neglect from the student affairs office.
The protest remained peaceful with no injuries or property damage reported as of noon on Monday.

The Polytechnic’s Rector, Professor Mohammed Toungos, was present near the main gate under police protection but was quickly escorted away when tensions escalated.
He indicated plans to meet with management and possibly address the media.
Our correspondent noted that electricity had been restored to the campus, and security forces had managed to calm the students down during the protest.
