Ambrose Alli University has appointed Prof. Samuel Olowo as the new acting Vice-Chancellor following the decision of the outgoing acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sonnie Adagbonyin, to step down as part of a transition plan towards appointing a substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The newly established Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, has appointed Prof. Samuel Olowo, the current Provost of the College of Medicine, as the new acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
Prof. Olowo’s appointment comes after the announcement by the outgoing acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sonnie Adagbonyin, that he would be stepping down next week as part of a transition plan for the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.
In a letter dated August 28 and released on August 29, Adagbonyin stated that his decision to step aside aligns with the university’s plan to appoint a permanent Vice-Chancellor.
He said, “On Wednesday, August 28th, 2024, the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University announced a transition plan towards the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor for the university.
“By this arrangement, I will be stepping aside next week and handing over the office of Acting Vice-Chancellor to the newly elected Provost of the College of Medicine, Prof. Samuel Olowo, as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor.”
Adagbonyin expressed his gratitude to Governor Godwin Obaseki for the opportunity to serve and to Commissioner of Education, Dr. Joan Oviawe, for her support, which enabled him and his team to contribute to the development of Ambrose Alli University.
He also thanked his colleagues in the education sector for their camaraderie and friendship.
Adagbonyin was appointed as the acting Vice-Chancellor on February 8, 2022, following the removal of Prof. Benson Osadolor.
