Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has indefinitely banned all final-year “signing-out” celebrations due to repeated incidents of disorder and security concerns, warning of strict disciplinary actions for violators.

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has imposed an indefinite ban on the tradition of “signing-out” celebrations by final-year students during examination periods.
This decision was announced in an official statement released on Tuesday, signed by the university’s Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Okeke. The directive is effective immediately.
According to the university, the ban was prompted by frequent incidents of disorder, violence, and disruption associated with the celebrations.
“The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University wishes to inform all students that, with immediate effect, all forms of signing-out related to final examinations are banned on campus. This step was taken in response to recurring incidents of disorder and disruption associated with such events,” the statement read in part.
The university also raised concerns about unauthorized individuals entering the campus during these events, posing a security risk to both students and staff.
Dr. Okeke emphasized that students who violate the ban will face serious disciplinary consequences, including possible rustication. Outsiders involved in the activity may also face arrest and prosecution for disorderly behavior.
Reassuring the campus community, the Registrar reaffirmed UNIZIK’s commitment to maintaining a safe, peaceful learning environment.
“All students are advised to focus on their academic responsibilities and promptly report any threats to safety or misconduct to the appropriate authorities,” she added.
