Lois Afua Okyerewaa Damptey, a Ghanaian woman, earned a PhD in Materials Engineering from Open University, UK, won the best PhD student award for 2024, and inspired others by sharing her journey of overcoming challenges through faith, passion, and hard work.


Lois Afua Okyerewaa Damptey, a talented Ghanaian woman, earned her PhD in Materials Engineering from Open University in the UK, and was recognized as the best PhD student for 2024.
She shared her excitement on Facebook, thanking her supervisor who presented the award, noting that she was his last PhD student before his retirement.
Lois, who described her journey as one driven by faith, passion, and hard work, emerged first among 10 nominees for the award.
Her research group also won the overall best research group in the school. A Ghanaian journalist, Rahman Osman, highlighted her inspirational journey from Pig Farm, Accra, encouraging others to pursue their dreams regardless of challenges.
Lois, who began her academic journey at the University of Ghana, advised fellow scholars not to be discouraged by difficulties or criticism along the way.
