Adepoju David, the best graduating student of FUOYE with a 4.87 CGPA in Mathematics, overcame challenges through determination, faith, and resilience, earning multiple accolades and leadership roles.

A Nigerian student, Adepoju David, has been named the overall best graduating student of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) after earning a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with an impressive 4.87 CGPA out of 5.00.
David shared his inspiring academic journey on LinkedIn, describing it as a mix of triumphs and trials. While achieving such an outstanding grade was a dream come true, he revealed that the journey was filled with late nights, self-doubt, financial struggles, and obstacles that tested his resilience.
Throughout his studies, David maintained a perfect 5.0 CGPA for three consecutive semesters and only deviated slightly in three other semesters, where he earned a single ‘B’. Despite this, he secured a First-Class degree and multiple accolades, including:
• Best Graduating Student in the Department of Mathematics and the Faculty of Science
• Dean’s Award for eight consecutive semesters
• Recipient of the MTN Foundation Scholarship
Beyond academics, David actively took on leadership and professional roles. He served as the president of Christ Apostolic Church Campus Fellowship, the second-largest Christian fellowship on campus. He also gained practical experience as an intern at the International Centre for Applied Mathematical Modelling and Data Analytics (ICAMMDA) and mentored over 200 students across his department, faculty, and fellowship.
Reflecting on his journey, David emphasized that determination, faith, and resilience are key to success, regardless of one’s background.
“I did not have all the privileges, but I had determination, faith, and the will to keep pushing. Challenges came from every direction, but they did not dictate my outcome. My faith in God, hard work, and resilience carried me through,” he said.
David expressed deep gratitude to his parents, mentors, and supporters, acknowledging that no success is achieved alone. As he moves forward, he sees this achievement as the beginning of a greater journey, ready to lead, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to the world.
“The lessons I have learned, the resilience I have built, and the character I have developed will be the foundation upon which I build my next achievements. This is only the beginning,” he added.
