“Don’t get Involve in Cultism,Drug abus e”-UNIBEN VC warn Newly Students

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Benin (UNIBEN), Professor Lilian Salami has urged the newly matriculating students of the university in affiliation with the Federal College of Education, Akoka, to shun cultism, drug abuse, prostitution, and other social vices.

Salami noted that the social vices would mar their sojourn in the institution as the authority does not condone such.

The Don made this plea at the Matriculation ceremony of the students held yesterday in Lagos.

‌He explained that obedience to the rules and regulations of the institution is mandatory as the University authority has zero tolerance for any nefarious activities, and is ready at all times to apply appropriate sanctions against offenders.

Professor Salami, therefore, encouraged them to be good ambassadors of their families and the institution, imploring them to be determined, diligent and resilient in the acquisition of their various academic endeavour.

“I encourage you all to be decent and shun evil vices like cultism, drug abuse, prostitution, exam malpractices, and other immoral activities that may mar your sojourn in this great institution

“Obedience to the rules and regulations of this institution is mandatory as the University authority has zero-tolerance for any nefarious activities, and is ready at all times to apply appropriate sanctions against offenders.

“I encourage you all to be good ambassadors of your families and the institution. I also implore you to be determined, diligent and resilient in the acquisition of your various academic endeavour, which is your primary aim of coming to school, ” the Vice-Chancellor stated.

In the same vein, The Provost, Federal College of Education, Akoka, Dr Wahab Azeez admonished the students to pay attention to academic excellence, set high academic and moral standards for themselves, and be focused.

Azeez stated that they should cultivate the habit of attending lectures regularly and punctually as their requirement for academic excellence.

He added that they should be of good conduct, observe laid down rules and regulations, eschew evil, and shun all associations and groups that would put them on a collision path with the College and University authorities.
