The Valedictorian Speech That Got His Fellow Graduates Clapping

Cursory: Valedictorian of the 2023 graduating class of the Dominica State College (DSC), Malik Anthony has advised his fellow graduates to surround themselves with people who will create a positive impact in their lives

Malik Anthony, a graduating student of Dominica State College (DSC), addresses over 300 graduates’ at a ceremony held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium on Friday during their Valedictorian of the 2023 graduating class.

Malik is a graduate from the faculty of applied arts and technology.

These were his speech:

“As we each embark on our own individual journeys in life, let us be always meticulous when deciding on who we associate ourselves with,” he advised. “I challenge you to surround yourselves with individuals who are just as ambitious as you or even more than you and I implore you to build up a community of achievers within your circle.

“For we cannot hit a target we did not aim for and can’t score if we don’t take that shot.

“Many of us did not shy away from taking our shots whether it was pursuing a double major, or triple major while participating in extracurriculars.

“The persistence they all have displayed throughout their tenure at the Dominica State College is admirable and I am confident that this accomplishment merely scratches the surface of what you will achieve in the future.

“Do not allow the trivial opinion of others to contaminate your own impression of yourself. Be the author in your book, that is your own life.

“As we leave this ceremony this afternoon, many of us may feel ready to pursue our education. Some of us may be eager to enter the working field and others may be unsure of what their next step is. But I want you to do some self-reflecting…

“Always remember that God is in control and nothing happens before its time.”

Malik took a moment to congratulate all his fellow graduates.
