Spent 12yrs for a 4-year Course: Lady Narrates How She Went from Academic Failure to Successful Business Mogul

A young Nigerian lady identified as Omobolanle Adenle who is among the graduates of the 45th Obafemi Awolowo University convocation has shared her story on how she obtained her First degree.

She was admitted to study African Linguistics and Languages in 2010, but instead of graduating in the 2014/2015 session, she graduated in 2021.

While recounting her ordeal to Punch, Adenle, who is now an entrepreneur, said her challenges began in her first and second semesters on the OAU campus.

She said: “A journey that started in 2010 and ended in 2021. I thought I would end up with my classmates in 2015 when I got admission to study African Linguistics and Languages at the University. Obafemi Awolowo in 2010, but my first and second semesters’ results were nothing to write home about after doing my best. So I got discouraged.

“I thought I would get the JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board) and change courses the next year that I tried but failed again, so I made up my mind to finish what I had started but it was already almost late. .

“I couldn’t bear to go back to school and take my main courses, but I did it anyway and it was a disaster from start to finish – but I just couldn’t stop and it saddened me the heart at that time.

“I felt like a total failure in life and everything the academics did saddened my heart until I decided to find another interest that would fill the sorrow I harbored daily in my heart.”

After the “failed” semesters, Adenle had to start a business to raise funds to survive.

This time, she said, the move was successful as she was able to pay many bills on her own, including school fees.

She continued, “I decided to explore the world of business with my academics nearly collapsed then because I needed to start generating additional income to pay my tuition bills and general well-being.

“My business became the only way to escape the deep sadness I nurtured in my academics, I finally found my fulfillment beyond the four walls of the classroom – by buying and selling different products and services.

“I have become a sales professional in everything that can be sold on this earth and there is no product or service under heaven that I cannot sell with ease and speed right now as a product manager. and Digital Marketer, I have mastered the art of selling by peddling different products after class to my fellow students in the women’s shelters of the OAU.

“I was actively involved beyond the four walls of school while continuing my studies, I became so good at my job that I won a company grant in 2018.

“I became a business mogul with two physical stores in Lagos State and Osogbo, Osun State, until I more recently focused on digital products and no longer need a physical location in Osun State. “

Determined to graduate, Adenle returned to academia but failed again. She said she went through various obstacles before she was allowed to finish her studies.

By that time, she had resumed all the failed courses, one of her results would be missing again.

She said: “I had to have an extra year to sort out all the courses I had failed, but I still failed and had to come back to retake some courses, but I chose not to come back, j was already tired and told my Party Advisor that I was done with school and wanted to travel because I was frustrated.

“I came back the following year after a year off and paid dearly with several medical reports before being allowed to resume classes two years later. And when I thought I was finally done being completely cleared from the OAU, one of my results disappeared, an elective one by the way, and for over a year we worked on it until ‘until I finally found the courage to take it back, after which it was found after resuming the course.

“The shame was unbearable when each year that I thought I would be done left me hanging around, then I learned patience, persistence, stubbornness and how to trust God with my life exclusively.”

According to Adenle, her ordeal taught her to believe in the divine whole and never be hard on herself.
