A Kwara State court has remanded a self-proclaimed cleric, Abdulrahman Mohammed Bello, and four others for the ritual murder of final-year student Lawal Hafsah Yetunde, with the next hearing set for March 6, 2025.

A Kwara State Magistrates’ Court in Ilorin has ordered the remand of a 29-year-old self-proclaimed Islamic cleric, Abdulrahman Mohammed Bello, and four others for the murder and dismemberment of Lawal Hafsah Yetunde, a final-year student at Kwara State College of Education.
According to the police First Information Report (FIR), Yetunde, 24, was allegedly killed by Bello and his accomplices—Ahmed Abulwasiu, Sulaiman Muhydeen, Jamiu Uthman, and Abdulrahman Jamiu—for ritual purposes.
The prosecutor, Matthew Ologbonsaye, revealed in court that the suspects belong to the same occult group and admitted to robbing and murdering the victim for rituals.
The defendants face charges including:
• Criminal conspiracy
• Culpable homicide
• Armed robbery
• Possession of human parts
Due to jurisdictional limitations, Magistrate Sanusi B. Mohamed did not take their pleas but ordered their remand at Oke Kura Custodial Centre until the next court hearing on March 6, 2025.
The suspects had no legal representation during the arraignment. The horrific crime has sparked public outrage, with demands for swift justice for the slain student.
