A man recounted how his cousin, who had been living with his family while preparing for JAMB, became visibly upset and refused to attend his graduation after seeing his successful WAEC results, leading to tension in the household and her eventual return to the village.

A man has shared an emotional account of a family incident that occurred after he received his WAEC results, explaining how his academic success unexpectedly affected his relationship with an older cousin who had been living with his family.
According to him, the cousin—who is about seven years older and had moved from their village to stay with his family while preparing for JAMB—had been studying alongside him during his secondary school years. He noted that he often assisted her with past questions and revision, and he was genuinely happy when she eventually passed her JAMB examination.
However, when his WAEC results were released and he successfully passed all his subjects, the mood in the house changed. He recalled being excited and sharing the results with everyone, but his cousin reacted in an unexpected way—she quietly left the room and was later found crying, not out of joy but seemingly due to distress.
The situation became more tense on the day of his graduation ceremony. Although his cousin had initially planned to attend and was already dressed for the occasion, she reportedly refused to go after seeing his results. Despite repeated attempts by the family to understand her reaction, she declined to explain why she was upset.
The incident left the household unsettled, and his mother eventually arranged for the cousin to return to the village the following week.
The story has since drawn attention online, sparking discussions about jealousy, emotional pressure, and the challenges people may face when comparing their personal progress with others around them.
