NECO has warned school owners against proxy registration of candidates, highlighting measures to combat malpractice, including biometric data capture and the e-verify platform, while withholding results of students involved in impersonation during the 2024 SSCE.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has warned school proprietors and stakeholders to stop registering candidates for its exams by proxy, citing risks of identity theft and fraudulent results.
In a statement issued by NECO spokesman Azeez Sani, the council emphasized its commitment to eradicating examination malpractice through measures such as biometric data capture, customized answer booklets, and embedding candidates’ photos and birthdates on certificates.
Sani also highlighted the introduction of NECO’s e-verify platform in 2023 for online result verification, warning that any certificate not verifiable through this system is fake.
He urged state education ministries and schools to ensure only legitimate candidates are registered and noted that students involved in impersonation during the 2024 SSCE had their results withheld as part of NECO’s strict anti-malpractice policies.
