A young woman rejected an international scholarship to stay with her boyfriend, only to discover he cheated on her a week later, sparking widespread reactions on social media.

A young woman has shared her regret on social media after turning down an international scholarship because her boyfriend was unwilling to be in a long-distance relationship—only to discover he cheated on her a week later.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she revealed that she had lied to her family, claiming she didn’t receive the scholarship, all to stay with her boyfriend. However, his betrayal left her heartbroken.
“The bar is so low. I missed out on an international scholarship because he said he couldn’t do long distance. (He cheated on me a week after). I even lied at home, saying I didn’t get the scholarship,” she wrote, adding crying and broken heart emojis.
Her post quickly went viral, sparking widespread reactions from social media users who criticized her decision and offered words of encouragement.
Some urged her to prioritize her future over relationships, while others pointed out that her boyfriend’s lack of support was a red flag. One user commented, “You should have left him the moment he said he couldn’t do long distance—he wasn’t willing to compromise or sacrifice.”
Another added, “Youth is the time for life lessons. Better now than later. Some women in their 40s are still passing on opportunities because of men. At least this will never be you again.”
The post has since generated significant discussion, with many emphasizing the importance of choosing personal growth over temporary relationships.
