The 2024 Agbeyewa Cup has Kick-started featuring over 160 secondary schools from Ado Ekiti’s 16 local government areas, with the aim of promoting youth development, sportsmanship, and community spirit, with winners receiving cash prizes and the tournament running from October 8 to 29.


A total of 160 secondary schools from all 16 local government areas of Ado Ekiti state are set to compete in the second edition of the Agbeyewa Cup, a football tournament designed to promote competition and sportsmanship among students.
The tournament, organized by Agbeyewa Farms, began on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, and will run until Tuesday, October 29. Its aim is to foster youth development through sports within Ekiti State.
The competition started with preliminary matches at the local government level, with champions advancing to the knockout stages, culminating in a round of 16 showdown.
“We are thrilled to host the Agbeyewa Cup again, and fans, especially in Ekiti, can expect to see exceptional talent and thrilling games,” said Niyi John Olajide, chairman of Agbeyewa Farms, at the tournament’s launch.
Olajide emphasized that the Agbeyewa Cup is more than just football; it seeks to build character, resilience, and community spirit among the youth, aligning with the farm’s mission of empowering future generations both on and off the field.
This year’s champions will receive a grand prize of N1 million, with the first and second runners-up earning N500,000 and N250,000, respectively. Additionally, winners from each local government area will be awarded N30,000.
Reflecting on the previous edition, Olajide recalled how Christ School, Ado Ekiti, defeated Aramoko District Commercial Secondary School in the 2023 final, held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium.
Olajide reaffirmed Agbeyewa Farms’ commitment to community development, noting that since its establishment in 2021, the company has undertaken several outreach initiatives, including annual medical programs and year-end gifting, as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts.
