Harold Ekeh, a 17-year-old Nigerian immigrant, was accepted by all eight Ivy League universities and chose Yale to study biochemistry, with ambitions to attend medical school and become a neurosurgeon.

Harold Ekeh, a 17-year-old Nigerian, achieved the remarkable feat of being accepted by all eight Ivy League universities, choosing Yale University to pursue his bachelor’s degree.
Harold, who graduated from Elmont Memorial High School in New York, initially applied to 13 colleges, hoping to attend Stony Brook University nearby, only to be surprised by acceptance letters from each school, including the prestigious Ivy Leagues.
He credits his success to his parents’ strong work ethic; his family, having emigrated from Nigeria in 2011, faced financial difficulties, and Harold adapted to cultural and language differences, which sometimes included classmates mocking his Nigerian accent.
During high school, he excelled academically with straight A’s in AP courses, earned a 2270 SAT score, and engaged in various extracurricular activities, such as science research, theater, and serving as editor-in-chief of the school newspaper.
Harold, who also received acceptance from schools like MIT, NYU, and Vanderbilt, will major in biochemistry or molecular biology at Yale, aiming to attend medical school and pursue a career as a neurosurgeon.
