2024 WAEC Result of Aspiring Medical Student Sparks Online Reactions

The 2024 WASSCE results of a Nigerian student named Austin, who aspires to study medicine, sparked significant online discussion after he shared that he excelled in most subjects but struggled with Chemistry, receiving an E8.

The release of the 2024 WASSCE results has generated significant online buzz, particularly surrounding the performance of a Nigerian student named Austin, who aspires to study medicine.

Austin, who attended DEPOWA Schools, shared his results on Facebook after they were officially released on August 12. In his post, he revealed that he took nine subjects, including core subjects necessary for pursuing a medical degree.

His results were a mix of strong performances and a critical shortfall. He achieved an A1 in Civic Education and B3s in both English Language and Mathematics. However, his score in Chemistry, a key subject for medicine, was an E8, which could impact his university prospects.

Other subjects in which he received grades included Agricultural Science (C5), Biology (C4), Physics (C6), Computer Studies (C6), and Catering Craft Practice (C5). Expressing his disappointment, Austin wrote, “My WAEC result. Omo, Chemistry spoil show.”

When asked about his intended university course, Austin reaffirmed his desire to study medicine.

The post sparked a range of reactions from netizens:

Dorcas Kehinde Oludele suggested, “He should consider political science since he got an A1 in Civic. Not everyone needs to work in a hospital.”

Ezekiel Emmanuel Andy remarked, “Sometimes I leave my exams blank because silence is the best answer.”

Ölüwà Seun Sämüel commented, “I hope he did NECO. A science student without Chemistry won’t get far.”

Ramadhan Omar Haruna proposed, “WAEC should re-mark his Chemistry exam; there could be a mistake.”

Olalekan Samuel wondered, “What if he applies for computer science? Does it require Chemistry?”

Other commenters offered advice, sympathized, or shared their own experiences with challenging exams.
