CURSORY:
- The federal government has presented a registration certificate to CONUA, a breakaway faction of ASUU.
- The presentation was done yesterday, Tuesday, October 4, at the minister’s conference room, federal secretariat, Abuja.
- During the presentation, the minister announced the registration of the Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) as a trade union.

The federal government has made a new move to clip the wings of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as it presents a certificate of registration to the congress of Nigerian university academics (CONUA), a breakaway faction of ASUU.
This is speculated to be a result of ASUU’s refusal to call off its ongoing strike, which is in its 8 months now despite the order issued by the industrial court.
Chris Ngige, minister of labour and employment who presented the certificate to CONUA on Tuesday, October 4, also announced the Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) registration as a trade union.
Ngige said the two unions would operate alongside ASUU.
