Gombe State has enrolled 1,000 Almajiri children in a health insurance program to provide them with access to healthcare, particularly targeting vulnerable and less privileged groups.
Gombe State has enrolled 1,000 Almajiri children in its Contributory HealthCare Management Agency under an equity programme.
The event, supported by the office of the Governor’s Special Adviser, took place at Tsansanya, Almajiri, and Islamiyya schools.
Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Jatau, stated that the initiative, known as GoHealth, was introduced to ensure access to healthcare for vulnerable and less privileged groups.
He emphasized that without this scheme, many in these categories would struggle to afford healthcare, marking the enrollment of 1,000 Almajiri students as a significant step in the administration’s healthcare efforts.
The governor also highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting that the Almajiri children, being particularly vulnerable, are at higher risk of communicable diseases due to their exposure to harsh living conditions.
