NECO has released the 2024 SSCE results, with Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi leading, 60.55% of candidates earning five credits including English and Mathematics, and a 30.1% drop in exam malpractice cases.

The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the results of the June/July 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with 60.55% of candidates (828,284 students) earning five credits, including English and Mathematics.
NECO’s Registrar, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, announced that 83.90% (1,147,597 candidates) obtained five credits or more regardless of English and Mathematics, while 2,267 candidates with special needs participated in the exams. Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi states emerged as the top-performing regions, while Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Borno, and Zamfara recorded the lowest results.
This year, 1,376,423 candidates registered for the exam, with 1,367,736 sitting for it. NECO reported a 30.1% decrease in examination malpractice cases, down to 8,437 from 12,030 in 2023. Forty schools across 17 states were involved in mass cheating, and the Council plans to engage with the affected schools before imposing sanctions. Additionally, a school in Ekiti State has been recommended for de-recognition due to mass cheating, while 21 supervisors across 12 states face blacklisting for misconduct such as poor supervision, extortion, and negligence.
