A court in Yola, Adamawa State, ordered a college registrar to pay N1 million in damages and issue a written apology after assaulting a female lecturer for enforcing exam fee regulations.

A Chief Magistrate Court in Yola, Adamawa State, has ordered a college registrar to pay N1 million in damages to a female lecturer, Mrs. Fadimatu Musa, after he slapped her.
The court discharged Musa Chiroma, the Acting Registrar of the College for Legal Studies in Yola, after he fulfilled the payment, along with an additional N80,000 for prosecution costs. He was also required to provide a written apology and pledge not to harm or victimize the lecturer again.
Presided over by Chief Magistrate Uwani Danladi, the court struck out the case once these conditions were met.
Chiroma was initially arraigned on May 13, 2024, on charges of assault, using criminal force to deter a public servant, and voluntarily causing hurt, as per the Penal Law 2018.
The charges stemmed from an incident on April 15, 2024, when Chiroma assaulted Fadimatu for stopping a student from taking an exam due to unpaid fees.
Inspector Abubakar Nurudeen represented the prosecution, with S. N. Agaecheta defending the accused, while Mrs. Fatima Bello Raji of the Nigeria Bar Association Women Forum attended to ensure justice was served.
