Youths Set Fire to Bauchi Community’s Only Primary School, Leaving Children Without Learning Facility

Unidentified youths burned down the only primary school in Bauchi’s Kandahar community, prompting government condemnation, a promised investigation, and plans to rebuild as children face a lack of learning facilities ahead of 2025.

Unidentified youths in the Kandahar area of Bauchi metropolis have burned down the only primary school in the community, leaving children without a place to learn ahead of the 2025 school reopening.

The incident occurred on Friday following a disagreement in the area, though the exact cause of the altercation remains unknown. Efforts to extinguish the flames were unsuccessful, and the school was completely destroyed in the fire.

Residents have expressed deep sadness over the loss, as the school was the sole educational facility in the area. Reacting to the incident, the Bauchi State Government condemned the act, describing it as barbaric and a significant setback to education in the state.

Adamu Muhammad Duguri, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), assured the public of a thorough investigation to identify and punish those responsible. He also emphasized the need for collective efforts to ensure the safety of schools in the region.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to improving education by constructing and renovating schools across the state to prevent similar incidents and ensure access to quality education.
