After six years of rejections, Nigerian scholar Omotoke Titilope secured the prestigious UK Chevening Scholarship to pursue a master’s degree, crediting her success to perseverance, strategic preparation, and a strong support system.

After six years of persistent effort, Nigerian scholar Omotoke Titilope has achieved her dream of securing the prestigious UK Chevening Scholarship. This highly competitive award will enable her to pursue a master’s degree in Special Education, Needs, Disabilities, and Inclusion at the University of Hull. Her journey to this achievement has been marked by resilience, determination, and continuous self-improvement.
Omotoke, a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, first applied for the fully funded scholarship in 2018 but was met with disappointment. Undeterred, she reapplied multiple times in subsequent years—facing rejection after rejection. However, rather than giving up, she used each setback as an opportunity to refine her application and strengthen her candidacy. Her perseverance finally paid off in 2024 when she was awarded the scholarship.
Reflecting on her long and difficult journey, Omotoke highlighted the importance of preparation, strategic planning, and a strong support system. She credited her mentor and husband for their unwavering encouragement, which helped her navigate self-doubt and improve her application over the years. Key strategies that contributed to her success included starting her application process early, thoroughly researching her chosen university and program, and participating in mock interviews to sharpen her responses.
Now a recipient of the prestigious Chevening Scholarship, Omotoke expressed deep gratitude to the Chevening Awards and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) for granting her this life-changing opportunity. She also acknowledged the impact of those who supported her throughout her academic pursuit, emphasizing how their belief in her abilities kept her motivated.
For aspiring scholars facing rejection, Omotoke offered words of encouragement, urging them to remain persistent, learn from past mistakes, and continue striving for excellence. She believes that with determination and continuous self-improvement, success is always within reach.
