Lady Achieves Her Life-long Dream to Study ‘Toughest’ Course, Despite Her Failures

Cursory: Pontsho Dolce Dolo, a determined African lady, has achieved her dream of studying her dream course at the University of Pretoria despite initial challenges with the university entrance exam.

Pontsho Dolce Dolo, a determined young lady from South Africa, has achieved her dream of studying Medicine and Surgery at the University of Pretoria after facing initial challenges with the university entrance examination.

During her time in high school, Pontsho aspired to pursue a career in Medicine. However, she faced disappointment when she did not pass the Matriculation examination, which affected her morale. Despite this setback, she remained resolute in pursuing her dream.

Pontsho took the initiative to enroll in the Extended Degree Program, a rigorous course tailored for high school students who do not meet the entry requirements for South African tertiary institutions.

With unwavering determination and hard work, she excelled in the program, and a year later, she earned admission to the University of Pretoria to study medicine.

Her passion for medicine serves as her constant motivation, driving her to embrace challenges and embrace new knowledge eagerly.

“My love for medicine keeps me going, and I am always ready and excited to learn about new things no matter how difficult it is. My love for medicine is too deep to a point where no one or any situation can drive me to leave medicine,” she said.

Pontsho acknowledges the significant support from her family, which plays a pivotal role in keeping her focused on her aspirations. Despite not coming from a privileged background, she is grateful for the unwavering support she receives from her family, and she is determined not to let them down.

“I have a very supportive family that keeps me going constantly. They always remind me why I want medicine when facing a difficult situation. I’m not from a very advantaged family, but the support I get from my family is excellent, and I don’t want to disappoint them because they try by all means to provide everything I need,” she said.

Pontsho’s journey serves as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges with gaining admission to their desired courses.

She encourages students not to give up or feel ashamed but to confront their fears and consider upgrading their marks the following year as a better option than settling for anything less than their true aspirations. Her story exemplifies the power of resilience and determination in achieving one’s dreams.

“Upgrading your marks the following year is not a shame. It is way better than settling for any degree. Lift your head up and walk straight. You got this,” she said.
